First of all, which watch are we talking about? Its the Patek Philippe 5016A, which sold for $7.26 million. This grande complication included a tourbillon, minute repeater and a retrograde perpetual calendar. Despite knowing what watch was sold and how much it had sold for, no-one knew who bought it.


Its veeb revealed that the Patek Philippe 5016A was sold to none other than Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt! The watch was at sale at the Only Watch auction which raises money for research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This year the auction raised $11,204,707 – over half of it from Brad Pitt’s extravagant purchase!

The name of the man who purchased the watch wasn’t the only interesting thing to be revealed. It also turned out that Pitt bought the watch as a gift for his enstranged wife, Tomb Raider actress, Angelina Jolie.

This is not the first time that Brad Pitt has bought an expensive watch for his wife. In 2014 bought another rare Patek Philippe wristwatch for £250,000 as a pre-wedding gift for Jolie. A source at the time revealed:

“He wanted to buy 'Ange' a unique gift that very few people own which is like a piece of art – and the highly sophisticated watch is just that. It chimes sounds based on Big Ben and is constructed by hand. He went to Geneva to pick it up and it’s believed he’ll present it to 'Ange' as a pre-wedding gift.”
