Gists From The Headies

The 2012 Hip Hop World Awards (Headies) has finally come and gone, but not without one or two things out of the ordinary.

Although I wasn’t there in person, I actually got the full low down of what happened there.

First of all, I heard that Rookie of the year, Burna Boy fell down while he was performing on stage. Some people said he looked and behaved tipsy, and some people also claimed that it was part of his performance. Either ways, i heard that he gave a lovely performance which got the crowd dancing and singing along.

It was gathered that the hosts of the night, Omawunmi and M.I did an incredible job. At a point, Omawunmi, who’s known for her “I don’t care attitude”, placed a wager with M.I of 500,000 Naira that she will go through the event without speaking pidgin english.

Notably absent at the awards was Don Jazzy with the MAVIN crew, Kokomaster D’ Banj, Mr MayD and P Square but they had people around to help them accept their awards. As you may have it, the same lady that accepted P Square’s award was the same lady that accepted Mr MayD’s award as well.

The prestigious next rated award, which usually comes with a brand new car went to Davido. I heard that when the award was announced, Davido burst into tears. Maybe it was because he wasn’t expecting it, or maybe because the crowd didn’t feel he deserved it from the way they cheered. He eventually dedicated the award to his late mum.

On the other hand, Eva Alordiah, who was also nominated for the same award, was seen sobbing in one corner as well. Some people actually claimed that Eva really needed the car, and knowing Davido and his “billionaire dad status”, he might just give out that car to one of his friends.

Also, I heard that the sound quality during Davido’s performance was very very poor and he was visibly upset.

At the end of the day, the awards went well and it lasted till the early hours of the morning.
