Nigerian Lawmakers Exchange Blows As PDP Factional Chairman Visits

Nigeria’s house of Representatives Supporters of PDP factions clashed as they declared support for their respective factional chairmen. The PDP is in a race against time to return peace to its fold ahead of the 2015 general elections. They were involved in a rowdy session on Tuesday as Abubakar Baraje, Chairman of the splinter Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), visited.

Fighting broke out as lawmakers loyal to Bamanga Tukur, who heads another faction of the PDP, jeered Baraje as he addressed lawmakers at a meeting in the lower legislative chamber after an earlier meeting with principal officers of the Senate. Mr Baraje was accompanied to the National Assembly by the now famous “7 aggrieved Governors”.
